12/3/12: We said goodbye this past weekend to our friend Karl Turner. He will be forever missed.
Karl was born May 31, 1957, in Sterling, IL, the son of Clarence B. and Geneva (Balk) Turner. He attended Rock Falls High School . He served six years as a Marine from 1975 to 1981. A union electrician, he was a member of IBEW 145 in Moline , IL , for 20 years. His favorite pastime was riding his Harley-Davidson Fatboy and Trike. He also was a racing enthusiast. Karl drove an American Super Cup for four years at various tracks across the Midwest. Godspeed Karl
11/27/12: We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend Karl Turner. Karl was a driver, supporter, and friend to our series and drivers from day one. Karl started racing minicups in 2004, taking the Rookie of The Year honor. Those who got to know him closely knew him as a gentle man with a big heart. Karl battled serious illness with dignity over the past year, and he will be missed.
11/14/12 - The 2012 ASCS Championship Banquet was a great time of reflection, celebration, eating, partying, and down & dirty arcade racing! Congrats to all our race winners and to our raffle winners.
We'd like to thank Dave & Busters for their support, and are glad to annouce them as a 2013 Sponsor of the ASCS. Be sure to visit them for your next party! Additionally thank you to AUTOZONE of Lombard for supplying banquet prizes! Also J&J Powder Coating gave away 2 free chassis coatings, while Popcorn Factory and Biggins gave out gifts to every driver!
Thanks to Mark Melchiori for coming out and taking photos of the banquet and award winners. Visit his website www.MDMRacePix.com for a full season of great photos!
9/9/12 - Another exciting season is in the books, ending on a great note, under perfect skies, this past weekend at Slinger Super Speedway. It was the Slinger Season Championship Raceday as the track crowned champions in 5 divisions on the world’s fastest ¼ mile.
Starting things off in Qualifying, Erik Gehrke ’s #14 Chevy not only took Fast Qualifier but set a new Slinger track record. In the first Heat Race, #3 Ken Jones squeaked to the front and took the win. In the second Heat Race, 2010 Champion #22 Erle Hoth visited Victory Lane once again.
For the season finale Feature Race, 2011 Rookie of the Year Derrick Van Dreel took the early lead, but with oil dry all over the low side of the track from an earlier Late Model crash, the Super Cup cars were sliding all over, trading spots quickly. Title contender #52 Cody Erdmann was able to take the lead and hold on for the first half of the race. However, 2011 Champion Gehrke was all over his silver fender for several laps, looking for a gap. Coming up on a lap car, Gehrke was able to get inside Erdmann finally and made the tight, three wide pass, for the lead. A late race restart due to a single car spin, brought the field back together. As they went green again, Erdmann and Van Dreel challenged Gehrke to the line, but he was able to hold them off for his first win of 2012. Erdmann took home second, with Jones, David Cerer #7, & Hoth right behind in a heated battle.
Cody Erdmann battled hard for the win and for the season championship, but consistency was the key as third place Ken Jones racked enough points up to win his first ASCS Championship and 4th Super Cup Title! Cody Erdmann doesn’t walk away empty handed, taking the Century 21 Agent Charmaine Cerer Fast Qualifier Award. Rookie Joshua James impressed the group with his clean driving and first ever feature race win, and claimed the 2012 Rookie of the Year Award.
Photos, videos, and full race results can be found on our website www.AmericanSuperCups.com. We’d like to thank all our sponsors, supporters, family & friends for making this the best season yet. We look forward to continued success and invite fans to get off the cold bleachers and into one of our hot race cars for the 2013 season.
9/2/12 -This past weekend the #30 Team of Joshua James and #22 Team of Erle Hoth waited out the rain to test out the Annual Rock Island Grand Prix race course. With the streets of Rock Island lined with fans, the ASCS teams took to testing the track which proved to be fast yet tricky. Afterwards spectators gathered to get an up close look at the cars and talk with the team’s members. Thank you to the Grand Prix staff for inviting us to the great event.
8/11/12 - The championship battle is starting to come down to the wire as the American Super Cup Series finished up their second race at the Lacrosse bullring last weekend. The first time there, Rookie Joshua James stole the show. This time all the drivers returned with better knowledge of the unique inner track.
Starting off in the heat races was what is becoming a familiar pattern, points leader #3 Ken Jones and current second place holder #52 Cody Erdmann won their respective heat races. The Championship battle is coming down to the two contenders while consistent #33 Andy Forster looks to keep his title hopes alive as well.
In the Feature race, it was pole sitter #31 Mick Ellis holding off James early for the lead. But as they went side by side, almost unnoticed Ken Jones and Cody Erdmann drove from the back of the field to the front of the pack. They made swift work of Ellis and James and began their own door to door battle for the lead. Erdmann tried all he could to find a way around the veteran Jones, but every time he made a move Jones would shut the door or a lap car would impede his run. Ken Jones would hold on to take the win, his 4th feature win of the season.
With little time to prepare, the ASCS drivers must head east in Wisconsin to the Dells Raceway Park this weekend. Only two points races remain in the Championship battle and the fast, wide track could make or break someone’s season. Joining the usual troop of drivers this weekend include NASCAR Go Green Racing member AJ Hutchins and Bryce Pankratz, who used to beat up on Sam Hornish and Danica Patrick in their old karting days. We also welcome the return of Tony Velez, a former Super Cup racer who has been in and out of North Carolina, currently working on his dream of driving professionally.
We hope to see you at the track!
7/28/12 - The American Super Cup Series headed to Indianapolis Speedrome for their own version of the Brickyard race on Saturday night. This was the ASCS's final trip to the speedway for the 2012 season and the series put on the best race in years for the enthusiastic fans. This is a big weekend of racing in town at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Lucas Oreilly Raceway Park and The Speedrome. In fact, one former super cup racer, Mason Mitchell, who raced against several of our current drivers, led laps in the Friday night ARCA race. Knowledge and experience gained in supercup racing helps all drivers that want to excel or move to the next level.
The racing series took to the flat 1/5 mile Speedrome and Cody Erdmann picked up where he left off. He knocked down the fastest qualifying time followed by Rookie Joshua James and current points leader Ken Jones. The 10 lap heats were competitive as usual as Erle hoth and Jones captured heat wins.
The RacetalkRadio 25 feature race was like no other in the history of Super Cup racing. The cars paced out of turn 4 onto the front stretch in a nice neat pack nose to tail, door to door and did not separate for 23 of the 25-lap race. Lap after lap every driver was holding tightly onto positions and making only slight gains and losses as they circled the track. Track officials and spectators alike were in awe of the close racing of this pack of cars. This race was a testament to the level of driver ability and car setups that makes this series the premier Super Cup racing series in the country.
Greg Harlow, a rookie racer from Michigan who made his first race with ASCS was even in the mix. He rented one of the series sealed motors and finished in the 5th position. Thanks to Greg for making the trip – Hope to see you back on track again. As the pack crossed the finish line two and three wide, Erle Hoth captured his first feature win of the year, followed by Erdmann, Forster, Baldyga, Harlow, James, Jones, Ellis, Busekros and Udelle. This group of racers did an outstanding job of clean door to door racing for so many laps. The series has already confirmed racing with the Speedrome for next year and look forward to next Spring's race! Photos, videos and full results can be found on our website AmericanSuperCups.com.
After taking a deep breath, the most competitive super cup racing series heads back to Lacrosse for the last time this year on August 11th to tame the track that is even more challenging than the Speedrome. It’s that time of the year to knock off your rookie stripes if you’re interested in racing with ASCS in 2014. Series rules require three starts in the rear of the field before you can participate in the inverted racing. Join us now so when the season starts next year you will be able participate in the inverts. We have rental sealed-motors available and only one more rental car available for the last few races.
Have a great weekend off and we will see you in Lacrosse!
7/14/12: As the heat wave continues across the midwest, the unrelenting sun spared no quarter on the hard working drivers and crew members of the American Super Cup Series this past weekend at Rockford Speedway. This was the second race at the historic track this season and veteran #4 Brian Baldyga took the first win while several young guns seek out Victory Lane this time around for the LawmenRacing.com Sponsor Package 25.
Off the bat, it was Joshua James, fresh off his first ever Super Cup victory at LaCrosse Speedway last weekend, taking the Century 21 Agent Charmaine Cerer Top Qualifier Award. In the first heat race, hometown hero #29 Kodee Busekros made an early pass to take the win. In the second heat race, #12 Derrick Van Dreel avoided a spin to take the win.
In the feature race, #3 Ken Jones was able to wrestle away the lead early from Van Dreel, with Busekros right in tow. The leaders, along with #52 Cody Erdmann, #31 Mick Ellis and Brian Baldyga, began to break away from the pack of 14 fast cars. They continued to jockey for position over 25 hard fought laps. In the end, Busekros tried a last lap pass on Jones, but the former Champion held his spot to the checkered flag, followed by Busekros, Erdmann, Van Dreel, and Baldyga.
Full Results, photos and race videos have been posted to the website, so be sure to check out www.AmericanSuperCups.com for more info. Local racers #52 Cody Erdmann and #30 Joshua James were guests of the Racing Round Up ESPN Radio show in Milwaukee. See the video HERE.
The most exciting Super Cup series in the country takes this weekend off, but returns to the home of American auto racing, Indianapolis, on 7/28 along with the NASCAR Brickyard weekend, for the RaceTalkRadio.com 25. You never know which stars (or future stars) of racing you might bump into!
7/7/12: As the Midwestern heat wave finally started to cool off, the ASCS Championship hunt heated up at LaCrosse Speedway this weekend. 12 brave drivers made the first ever super cup race on the unique ¼ mile inner track at LaCrosse Speedway, home of the world famous Octoberfest Race Event, for the Ultimate Motorsports sponsored race event. Each corner and straightaway of the inner track was very different, putting a lot of stress on the cars, the drivers and their crews all night long!
#52 Cody Erdmann had no problem adjusting his Ford Mustang to the new track, taking another top qualifier award! Cody increases his lead in the 2012 Century 21 Agent Charmaine Cerer Top Qualifier Award.
The first super cup races ever at LaCrosse did not disappoint the packed crowd, as both heat races featured very exciting finishes. #31 Andy Forster barely nosed out rookie #31 Joshua James for the first victory. In the second heat, #3 Ken Jones passed #7 David Cerer for the win on the last lap!
In the UltimateMotorsports.com feature race event, rookie Joshua James started on the pole with experienced veteran David Cerer right on his outside. James had the track figured out and his crew put the right setup as he took off from the field, leaving the pack to battle for second place. Unfortunately for Cerer he had to pull off the track with a mechanical issue, giving up second to 2010 Champion Erle Hoth. While James pulled away from the field, it was points leader Ken Jones and top qualifier Cody Erdmann, who both started in the rear, moving their way up through the pack, with some exciting door to door action on the way. Nearing the close of the race, 2011 Rookie of the Year #12 Derrick Van Dreel slowed on the frontstretch, bringing out the caution.
Things got interesting on the double file restart as cars went three wide to gain valuable spots before the checkered flag. Coming around the tire in turn 2, title hunters Jones and Erdmann got too close for comfort, causing Erdmann to spin right in front of another title hunter, #4 Brian Baldyga, bringing out another caution.
On the final restart, James showed the poise of a veteran, keeping #31 Mick Ellis and Erle Hoth behind as they threw everything they had at him. James would take his first ever super cup win in only his first season with the ASCS! Hoth finished second with Jones coming back to finish third. Ellis and Forster rounded out the top 5.
There is little time to celebrate for the James Gang as the ASCS makes a quick turnaround to race this Saturday at Rockford Speedway for the Lawmen Racing Sponsor Package 25. Racing starts at 7:07pm, we will see you there!
6/17/12: The stars were out this weekend at Slinger Super Speedway for the 5th race of the American Super Cup Series 2012 Championship. The stands were packed on a hot night for the annual Boy Scout night at Slinger. NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Steven Wallace was on hand with his father, hall of famer Rusty Wallace, to race their late model. They met the ASCS drivers and were treated to some of the best racing in the midwest!
Starting things off was David Cerer, who after missing races due to knee surgery, was back in prime form taking the Century 21 Top Qualifier Award. Local racer #52 Cody Erdmann was right behind in second.
In the heat races, it was the fast cars of Cerer and Erdmann taking the wins. But the racing was so close that the top cars in practice were within .3 seconds and in the second heat race, all cars were running within one tenth of a second in lap times!
For the SIGN-A-RAMA of Grayslake Feature race, #29 Kodee Busekros and #Ken Jones led the field to the green. It quickly became a three way battle for the lead, with Jones out front and Erdmann, Cerer and Busekros right on his tail. The front pack broke away from the second pack of six cars, lined up nose to tail. Just as Erdmann looked to make his move on Jones for the lead, the caution flag came out for the track announcer to interview the previous Sportsman class race winner.
After the interview, the green flag waived again, with Jones out front and Dave Cerer trying his luck, starting on the outside. Jones was able to pull away for the lead, but not without Erdmann again all over his black Chevy bumper. Erdmann looked to make his move, however, everytime he would have to defend from Cerer taking his second spot. Meanwhile, there was a fierce door to door battle midpack, with drivers scoring nearly identical lap times, swapping spots, looking for any inch to take. Indy Lights driver Peter Dempsey even mixed it up, driving an older back up car. He took it easy on the "unprofessionals" for the first half of the race, but went on the attack in the final laps. Be sure to follow him on twitter @peterdempsey.
As drivers fanned out to 3 wide on the last lap, it was Ken Jones taking his second feature win of the season, followed by Cody Erdmann and David Cerer. #22 Erle Hoth and #33 Andy Forster rounded out the top 5. Photos and videos of the event can be found at http://www.americansupercups.com/!
This weekend, many of our drivers will be both in the stands and working in the pits for the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. 2011 ASCS Champion will be there raising funds for the St. Baldricks Campaign. Help him shave his head and support the cause by clicking here: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/570848/2012 .Then ASCS racing action returns July 7th with our first ever trip to LaCrosse Speedway! Until then, we wish everyone a wonderful and safe 4th of July. Check your local parades for our Super Cup cars!
6/9/12: On Saturday night, the American Super Cup racing Series returned to Rockford Speedway to a full house of race fans. Also, returning to the line up was David Cerer who had knee surgery earlier in the year and was finally released to drive. Great to see the red #7 back on the track. We had two rookies race with the series for the first time. Tyler James, brother of Joshua James came out to play as did Zach Newland, who made the trip all the way from Iowa! Also great to see some other past participants from the racing series including the Jacob Van Wazer race team in the pits checking in and assisting drivers with some experience suggestions. Jacob is running this week in his ASA truck at the Milwaukee Mile – Good Luck Jacob! Karl Turner who has retired from the racing scene was also there relaxing and enjoying the old friends in the pits. Keep up the fight Karl!
Although the temperature was in the 90’s the cars were very competitive and close. Rookie sensation Joshua James and young gun Cody Erdmann had the exact same top qualifying time of 17.072. The top 11 cars were within 8/10ths of the pole sitters.
The first Heat race pole sitter Theresa Udelle led the field to the green flag and did a great job for the first few laps on the low side of the track. Eventually Brian Baldyga was able to grab the lead and hold on as Ken Jones and Joshua James, Mick Ellis and Rookie Zach Newland followed closely in Brian’s tracks until the finish.
The second heat saw the outside line catch up quickly as Kodee Busekros jumped past Andy Forster to grab the lead. Dave Cerer got back into the action with a third place in the heat followed by Cody Erdmann and Steve Wilson rounding out the top five.
After an intermission with kids rounding up money off the track from the coin drop, racing resumed with the ASCS 25 lap feature race sponsored by Farming the Breeze, a leader in commerical renewable energy installation and maintenance. Once again, the #33 of Andy Forster was on the pole on the low side of the track. Andy had a great start and took a little lead going into the first corner. However, the outside line was the place to be at Rockford. Brian Baldyga took to the top and did what he needed to take the lead. Many of the others fought for the top row and settled in after a few laps. After the the dust settled the top 5 aligned themselves and set up for a last lap shoot out. On the final lap everyone stepped out of line and made last chance, 3 wide, attempts to pass. The top five were Brian Baldyga, Mick Ellis , Andy Forster, Cody Erdmann and last weeks winner Ken Jones.
Congratulations to all the drivers for a great race in the tight track of Rockford Speedway. There were no cautions for the evening. Ken Jones was really pressing and managed to get a Rockford stripe down the side of his race car while trying to maximize the run on the top line. Rookie Joshua James, who was the top finishing rookie, has now completed his mandatory three starts in the rear of the field and can now start in the position that he has earned. Congratulations to Joshua, you have definitely earned the respect of the drivers on the track. Zach Newland also did a great job for the first time tackling the high banks of Rockford Speedway. We look forward to racing with him again soon.
After the tech was completed, the drivers were able to catch some more racing and the infamous pool jump with a Limo. Definitely a must see event! Thanks to all the fans and friends that showed up and visited in the pits after the race. After a few days off the ASCS return to Slinger Speedway Sunday for Fathers Day. Hope to see everyone at the track and have a great Fathers day. Check the website daily for newly added videos and photos of recent racing action!
5/30/12 - The ASCS racing series headed into the North Woods for the first time in 11 years to compete at the 1/3 paved mile oval. The track is still an open, flat and smooth track and really makes for great racing especially on a holiday weekend. The facility and race fans really appreciated the series making the stop and the drivers had a great time.
Most of the drivers attended a prerace BBQ that was hosted by Biggins Potatoes at the hotel where the drivers were staying on Sunday night. The drivers were able to relax, have some great BBQ, watch the NASCAR race, socialize and exchange racing stories. A huge THANK YOU! to BIGGINS for hosting the event and race for the next day. Joel Schulz from Biggins has not only supported the series for many years, he fields three Super Cup race cars. (Not to mention a few late models also) Knowing Joel for over 10 years, we are happy to see the success of Biggins and ASCS, hopefully for many years to come.
The following morning the gates opened at 10:00am and drivers from all series jammed the parking lot to enter the pits for the big Memorial Day show. Thank you to all the Men and women that serve and have served our country to protect our freedoms.
After unloading, the cars hit the track to dial in the race cars for the day’s event. Mick Ellis was able to snag the fastest qualifier position followed by local racer Katie Weinfurter and Cody Erdmann. All the cars in the series qualified within 8/10ths of the leader with the exception of Dan Weinfurter who had carburetor issues. Close qualifying times are an example of why this series prides itself on a level playing field. Every driver has an exceptional chance to shine every race. Speaking about shining – Hometown driver Katie represented the ASCS series in the National Anthem pace lap and spoke with the track announcer about racing. Great job Katie!
Mother Nature pushed back the heat races for a slight delay in start times. In the first heat when the track drying was completed Brian Baldyga was able to return to victory lane. Brian had taken a few years off from Super cup racing, he ran a partial schedule in 2011 and will be competing for the championship in 2012. Do not count the wily veteran out. Another local driver Derrick Van Dreel finshed second followed by Kodee Busekros, Joshua James, Katie Weinfurter and Steve Wilson .
In the second heat another returning veteran Ken Jones jumped to the lead and was able to hold off Andy Forster, Cody Erdmann, Mick Ellis and Erle Hoth for the win.
After another slight rain delay, the feature was set to go. After inverting the field's top ten drivers, the ASCS made their way to the green flag. The drivers all diced for positions and Ken Jones made move on the low side of pole sitter Andy and jumped into the lead. The remaining drivers were running laps two and three wide trying to make a move forward. The top five drivers continued to pull away slightly and form a pack of close racing, exchanging positions often. While a trailing pack did just the same. This was a great show for the holiday race fans and in the end, Ken was able to hold off local hot foot Derrick for his win. Andy, Brian and Mick rounded out the top five.
The ASCS would like to thank Biggins for making this weekend a huge success and Golden Sands for providing us with an awesome racing day. The fans were treated to the best Super Cup side-by-side racing. Once again the track was thoroughly impressed with the race and arrangements are being made for a return trip in 2013. We cannot wait!
Drivers will now have a week off to relax and get ready to return to Rockford Speedway on Saturday, June 9th. Drivers that missed this past holiday weekend due to work and other commitments will be returning. Should be a great race – See you at the track!
5/22/12- After a week off, the American Super Cup Racing Series returned to the high banks of Slinger Speedway for our second race of the year sponsored by GEM Building Contractors. The racecars hit the track for two practice sessions as drivers dialed in the cars for the day. When it came time for qualifying the #52 car of Cody Erdmann led the way followed by fast rookie Joshua James, Mick Ellis, Kodee Busekros and Ken Jones. After getting the heat and feature race lineups to the track and drivers meeting completed we were all ready to go racing.
It was also nice to see some of the cars that were unable to attend the first race at the Speedrome. Making this trip to Slinger were Theresa Udelle, who had a personal best qualifying effort of seventh, Rocket Derrick Van Dreel, and also Rookie Greg Davis trying to get a few races under his belt.
Mother Nature had other plans for the evening. The light puffy clouds turned dark and the wind picked up. After a few minutes in the downpour, the track called off racing for the evening and the cars were put back in the trailers for next week. Many of the drivers then proceeded to a local restaurant to exchange racing stories and do a little socializing. Thanks for making this the best group of drivers around!
Over Memorial Day weekend on Monday Afternoon, the American Super Cup Racing Series returns to Golden Sands Speedway to tear up the 1/3 mile oval. The event is sponsored by Biggins @ www.bigginsracing.com . Many of our drivers received some of these awesome potatoes at the Slinger race and they tasted great. Thanks to Biggins.
Everyone have a safe travels this upcoming weekend and hope to see you at the track to see the best Super Cup racing in the country. - Enjoy your Holiday!
5/6/12 - Were back!!! Since our last race in September, the American Super Cup Series drivers have been hard at work doing car shows, parades, sponsor visits and getting the cars ready for the 2012 racing season. In the off-season, the series has retained and obtained new drivers, sponsors and tracks. These additions will continue to make this the most challenging, affordable and fun places to race a super cup car.
The American Super Cup Racing Series opened up the 2012 season this past weekend at the Indianapolis Speedrome. The Speedrome is a flat track, which challenges all levels of driving. Since coming to this track a few years ago the relationship between the track and series has grown and drivers appreciate the facilities, the staff, and the challenge!
J&J Powder Coating of Zion, Illinois sponsored the first race of the season. The ASCS is proud be partner with them again this season. J&J has contributed a chassis powder coating every year as a series sponsor and almost every car in the field has a J&J powder coating. Stop by the track or J&J to see the great work they do and if you need any powder coating contact J&J.
The Super Cups rolled into town with many new paint jobs and colors to light up the night. The cars went onto the track for practice and qualifying and each driver quickly got back into the groove. Even with the challenge of a late model dumping a little oil on the track just before our qualifying, the ASCS drivers did an awesome job of steering through the oil and oil dry. Ken Jones was the fastest qualifier followed by the freshly painted car of Cody Erdman and Erle Hoth.
The 2012 racing started off just as close and competitive as the last race of 2011. For the first heat race of the year, Ken Jones, starting in the fourth position, managed to work his way to the front. After passing to the lead he managed to collect the first win of the season. He was followed by Andy Forster, Rookie Joshua James, Erle Hoth and Brian Baldyga.
In the second heat race Mick Ellis was on the pole and managed to maintain the lead and hold on for the win. Young guns Cody Erdmann and Kodee Buskeros raced side by side for many laps before Erdman manage to pull ahead for second. Buskeros took third followed by Tony Redina and Steve Wilson.
The feature race rolled out before the crowd and a full moon. After a little battling in the first few laps the Erdman car was able to work his way to the front and set pace to the field. The cars diced for position throughout the race until with a few laps to go the #29 car of Buskeros, which was being closely followed by Hoth went a little wide in turn 2 and spun without damage. Unable to get the car rolling again the caution flew and the field was bunched back together. Once the green flag flew, Erdman captured the lead again and never looked back. He was able to hold off 2010 Champion Hoth, Jones, James and Ellis to round off the top five for the evening. Congratulations to Cody for his first ever feature win!
Once again, after the races the cars were cleaned up and ready for the enthusiastic fans who wanted to see the ½ scale super cup cars in the pits. Drivers took pictures, signed autographs and talked with the fans. A great night as usual in the Speedrome! The drivers are all looking forward to our return trip in July for the NASCAR Brickyard Weekend in July 28th.
This was the first visit for James, Baldyga, Wilson and Rendina. All the drivers exhibited great car control and patience the challenge that was in front of them. Look for all these drivers to have great finishes throughout the year.
ASCS would also like to extend our best wishes to a few. Close friend of the racing series Eric McClure was involved in a accident at the Talladega Nationwide race. He was airlifted to the hospital and we are glad to report that the has since gone home and is resting. He will be going to Darlington this weekend although he will not be behind the wheel. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
ASCS series driver Theresa Udelle was unable to attend this weekend due to family matters. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. We are looking forward to seeing her back on the track soon also.
A few other drivers we unable to attend this weekend. David Cerer had knee surgery and is almost ready to climb back in. Rookie, Greg Tucker had a trailer problem on the way down and was unable to attend. We also had a few that are finishing up college, working and prior obligations. We should have a big field back at Slinger in a few weeks. Stay Healthy my friends. The ASCS is off until May 20th when we visit the high banked speedway of Slinger Wisconsin.
4/12/12 - The American Super Cup Series is proud to announce the addition of Dell Raceway Park to the 2012 racing schedule. The ASCS has been invited to participate this summer at yet another premier track in the Midwest which brings the total to seven different venues from the flat tight track of the Indianapolis Speedrome to the high banks of Slinger Super Speedway and from the single groove historic Rockford Speedway to the multi grooved Dells Raceway Park. If that is not exciting enough a grand prix style race through the streets of Rock Island has been added to give the ASCS competitors the opportunity to turn right as well as left. All this makes for an exceptional schedule, plus races at Golden Sands and LaCrosse Speedways.
President of the ASCS, Mick Ellis stated, “With addition of DRP, the American Super Cup Series solidifies itself as a true traveling series similar to the much larger series we have grown to love like the Must See Extreme Racing Series and ASA all the way up to the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series.” Although many racers enjoy running in a weekly series at their local track the ASCS Board believes the variety of different race tracks challenge the drivers to make changes to their individual driving style and car setups this in combination with an established sealed engine program are the ingredients for a competitive super cup racing series.
Please make sure to add the American Super Cup Series race at Dells Raceway Park on August 18th to your summer activities. For a complete schedule go here.
4/8/12 - 8 ASCS cars, including 3 rookie cars made it out to the first practice session of the year, at Rockford Speedway. A few photos courtesy of mdmracepix.com can be found here. Congrats to Greg Davis for his first ever laps in a Super Cup car. More driver introduction videos have been added.
3/23/12 - The country's premier traveling Super Cup Racing Series, located in the Midwest - American Super Cup Racing Series is proud and excited to present the most challenging Super Cup schedule in 2012. The 2012 tracks give us the opportunity to put the cars out in front of the largest racing crowds over this summer. We are scheduled to race at 8 different historic tracks over this summer, in front of packed houses. From the flat track of the Indianapolis Speedrome to the 33 degree high backs of Slinger Speedway, our variety of races will challenge veterans and rookies alike, all season long. Our 2012 Champion will have to adapt every race weekend to changing conditions, like the Champions of Indy Car, Formula 1 and NASCAR.
After a few years absence in the north woods of Wisconsin, we will be back at Golden Sands Speedway for an exciting conclusion to the Memorial Day weekend. We also return to our series home track of Rockford Speedway and make a first ever trip to Rockford’s sister track - Lacrosse Speedway.
If the schedule doesn't already present enough of a challenge to our drivers, check us out at the world famous Rock Island Grand Prix. We will be making our first ever appearance there over Labor Day weekend in front of thousands of fans on the street course through town.
We have the most experienced, largest field of and best drivers in Super Cup racing. We have Past Champions Brian Baldyga (2001), Ken Jones(2002, 2005, 2006), Erle Hoth (2010) and reigning champion Erik Gehrke (2007, 2008, 2011). Also returning are past race winners Andy Forster, David Cerer, Mick Ellis,Theresa Udelle, Derrick Van Dreel, Cody Erdmann, Kody Buskeros, and Dan Weinfurter. Katie Weinfurter and Steve Wilson will be challenging for the lead alongside some more returning and formerly retired Super Cup drivers. Several our of our part time drivers will also be on track at select regional races.
We also have a few rookie drivers coming from other series to join our competition including Joshua James, Tyler James, and Greg Davis. All are contenders for the 2012 ASCS Rookie of the Year Award. With all these drivers and mix of experience, this season proves to be one of the best in the history of super cup racing.
A special thanks goes out to all of our returning and new partners in racing who help support our drivers and series. Without their support, many drivers would be staying home on the weekends unable to attend. A future press release will anounce our 2012 Title Sponsors, which we are very excited about. Anyone interested in getting involved with the racing series for the 2012 season are still welcome. Many affordable packages are available starting at $250.00 for the season.
Unlike some series that promote rubbing and leaning on each other, our series is built on good clean racing and respect for other drivers. We pride our series on taking care of equipment and each other. We make sure that all cars are up to standards and drivers maintain a standard on the track.
For the past two years the championships have come down to the last lap of the last race with the top ten drivers all close and ready to move up. Each night of racing is ultra competitive from qualifying until the checkered flag waves. Unlike most other racing series, after the racing is over our drivers have dinner and drinks together, reflecting on (and bragging about) the nights racing.
All cars are inspected nightly and our motor program is second to none. In the off-season, our motors are torn down and inspected by three members of the club and sealed which leaves no room for unapproved modifications. This unwavering commitment to an equal motor program is why our series is the most competitive Super Cup series, week after week, year after year.
