09-18-11: While several ASCS drivers went south for the NASCAR races at Chicagoland Speedway, 13 drivers went north to the Wisconsin Dells for the Non-Points Small Car Nationals this past weekend.
The weather was perfect for racing and #14 Erik Gehrke started it out right, taking the Century 21 Agent Charmaine Cerer Top Qualifier Award. The top 5 qualifiers were within hundredths of a second from the pole! In heat race #1 it was rookie #52 Cody Erdmann taking the win. In the second heat race, another rookie and first time winner #1 Dan Weinfurter took the checkered flag.
In the feature race, it was #3 Ken jones jumping out to the early lead. While cars battled door to door, 2 and 3 wide behind him, he pulled farther ahead. However, the caution came out for contact and spin between the #21 Chuck Hinman and #10 Katie Weinfurter in turn 3. On the double file restart, Mick Ellis #31 would get the run on the outside to pass Ken Jones. While Mick pulled away, Ken was left to battle #22 Erle Hoth and #52 Cody Erdmann for the second spot. Ellis would go on to win, Jones in second, Erdmann third, Hoth fourth and Gehrke fifth. MDMRacepix.com has some great pictures of the race! Even more exciting was the fact that the 8 fastest cars were within 2 tenths of a second of each other!
Afterwards, the drivers put on a car show at the Mulligan’s Bar & Grill, inside the Christmas Mountain Village Resort. Once the show was over, the real show began when drivers had their end of season party which included some very “memorable” karaoke…
The 2011 Season is now in the books. After all the numbers where added up, we have our Champions. Erle Hoth is the2011 Century 21 Top Qualifier. #12 Derrick Van Dreel is the 2011 CARQUEST Rookie of the Year. In a very tight battle that came down to the last race, Erik Gehrke is the 2011 ASCS Points Champion. We had 12 different winners this past season in the most competitive super cup series in the nation! We invite you to join us in celebrating our Award winners Saturday Oct. 1st in Lake Zurich. We hope to see you there!
9-12-11: Under sunny skies and after a moving memorial to those lost on 9/11, Slinger Super Speedway opened its gates to some of the best racing in the Midwest. #22 Erle Hoth and#29 Kodee Busekros, ran 9/11 commemorative paint schemes on their cars Sunday, while several other drivers ran memorial stickers. The race events for Sunday at Slinger would settle 6 series Championships. For the American Super Cup Series, it would come down to 18 cars on the track and three drivers within 2 points for the 2011 title.
Incumbent 2010 Champion Erle Hoth would need to battle car builder and past Champion Ken Jones #3, and former Champion and weekly rival #14 Erik Gehrke. For the CARQUEST of Grayslake/Libertyville Rookie of the Year Award, #12 Derrick Van Dreel looked to hold on to his lead over #52 Cody Erdmann. Erle Hoth had already locked up the 2011 Century 21 – Agent Charmaine Cerer Top Qualifier Award, but it didn’t stop him from going out and taking the top time once again this Sunday.
Track and series photographer Mark Melchiori was a guest of the ASCS on Sunday, but we turned the tables on him, putting him behind the wheel of the Ultimate Motorsports #21 Chevy!
In the first heat race, it was Ken Jones taking the lead on the second lap and never looking back, helping his Championship hopes when Erle Hoth came in sixth. In the second heat race, young Jacob Van Waze #88r, who will be racing ASA Trucks full time next season, grabbed the early lead. But a slight bobble on the last lap led Erik Gehrke to sneak underneath and take the win by a few inches.
For the Kettle Moraine Bowl Feature Race, #7 David Cerer would draw the top starting spot, with Jones starting 6th, Gehrke 9th and Hoth in 10th. David Cerer asserted his position, holding off the field and pulling away as the cars battled, 3 and sometimes 4 wide right behind him! Van Wazer and Erdmann would battle hard for second, with Van Wazer gaining the spot. Jones moved up to fourth and the Championship lead while Hoth and Gehrke battled 3 wide with Van Dreel mid-pack.
As the laps wore on, Cerer held his lead, but Hoth and Gehrke charged aggressively through the field, passing Jones and then battling for second place, with Hoth moving to take the spot. Unfortuantely, mid-pack, rookie Nick Knauz #5 and Van Wazer got together, collecting #33 Andy Forster and Van Dreel. The caution came out and all cars were able to continue except the #5. But after almost a dozen race nights over the past 4 months, this was the first time all year a car was unable to continue due to damage. This only speaks to the quality of drivers in the ASCS and the respect drivers have for each other, even during one of the most highly competitive sports.
On the restart, Erle Hoth surprised the field by choosing the outside starting spot, Cerer was still in the lead and that would move Gehrke up to his bumper and Jones to the outside Gehrke. This would setup a 10 lap shoot out for the points Championship among Gehrke, Hoth, and Jones. At the green, Cerer pulled away again, with Gehrke and Hoth riding door to door for the next 9 laps, and Jones waiting patiently behind them for any opening or error. On the final lap, Gehrke pulled ahead but Hoth had enough room for the cross over move, but just not enough time to get it done. In the end, David Cerer would win his first Feature Race of the season, followed by Gehrke, Hoth, Jones and Erdmann. Cerer was the 10th different race winner in 2011 of the very competitive American Super Cup Series!
Preliminary points standings will show Erik Gehrke as our 2011 American Super Cup Series Champion! Congrats to all our drivers and our appreciation to Erle Hoth as the outgoing Champion and great ambassador of the series and its drivers. Derrick Van Dreel would lock in the CARQUEST Rookie of the Year.
To celebrate the season, our banquet will be on Oct. 1st in Lake Zurich and we invite all our supporters to attend. In the meantime, the ASCS drivers will participate in the exhibition Small Car Nationals race this Saturday afternoon at Dells Raceway Park. Following the race, the drivers will host a season ending party at the Mulligan’s Bar & Grill at Christmas Mountain. We invite everyone to come out for the fun.
More information will be posted shortly on our website, so please keep checking back! www.AmericanSuperCups.com .
9-5-11: With the racing action so intense at the Indianapolis Speedrome this Labor Day Weekend, it made the Indianapolis Motor Speedway look small. Not only did the American Super Cup Series have a double header of racing excitement, the Speedrome was crowning its weekly champions.
On Saturday, the scorching sun gave way to nearby thunderstorms, but the track stayed dry. Lightning in the area cut practice short, but Erle Hoth #22 came out as Century 21 Top Qualifier. Heat Race #1 was won by #12 Derrick Van Dreel, his first ever Super Cup win! Veteran racer and car builder Ken Jones #3 won the second heat.
In the Saturday Feature Race presented by Klenz Towels, #88 Jacob Van Wazer jumped out to the early lead until rookie Cody Erdmann #52 pounced and held the lead until a caution flag for a single car spin. On the restart, the tied points leaders Erle Hoth and #14 Erik Gehrke pulled ahead and started a vicious battle for the lead. The #12 of Van Dreel got too close and comfy with the large yellow bumps marking the inside of the track, spinning into the #33 of Andy Forster, bringing out the caution. Both cars were damage free and continued on. On the final restart, Gehrke did everything he could minus “dumping” the leader Hoth to take the lead. The “Iceman” Hoth was able to stay out in front of the “Intimidator” Gehrke to take the race win. Ken Jones finished third, Erdmann (The CARQUEST Top Finishing Rookie) fourth and Mick Ellis #31 fifth.
On Sunday, the races were non-points, but the ASCS don’t have a competition “off” switch, creating just as much excitement and drama as Saturday. Under grey skies and cooler temperatures, Erik Gehrke #14 took home the Century 21 fast time. For the first time all year, 2 first time winners took home Heat Race wins. Theresa Udelle led a wild 4 wide finish for her first race win, and Cody Erdmann held off ASCS young guns of Van Wazer, Van Dreel, and #5 Troy Mayer for his first heat win.
In the feature race, Derrick Van Dreel took the early lead, but veteran Erik Gehrke was on the warpath and grabbed the lead away and led most of the race while cars battled 2 and 3 wide right behind him. However rookie Cody Erdmann was flying to the front, right to the tail of the #14. Late in the race the #14 slid on the outside marbles, giving the lead to Erdmann. But Gehrke carried enough momentum for the cross over move and regained the lead. On the final lap, Erdmann charged hard again, this time on the outside, leading the white flag lap. However as they drag raced, side by side onto the backstretch of the final lap, Erdmann got loose in the outside marbles, sending him spinning into the infield, just barely avoiding the 3 wide field behind them. Gehrke took the win, Van Wazer second, Erle Hoth third, Ken Jones fourth, and CARQUEST Top Finishing Rookie Derrick Van Dreel fifth.
The points race only gets hotter this coming race weekend. Hoth, Jones, and Gehrke are only separated by 2 points going into the Season Finale presented by Kettle Moraine Bowl at Slinger Super Speedway this Sunday. Racing starts early, at 2pm, so don’t miss what is destined to be a classic!
The ASCS will take part in the ”Small Car Nationals” exhibition race at Dells Raceway Park on 9/17. Afterwards the league will celebrate a season well done at Mulligans/Christmas Mountain Village. We hope you can join us!
8-3-11: While the NASCAR engines roared on the Westside of Indianapolis at the Brickyard, the American Super Cup Series kindled the crowds on east side at the world famous Speedrome.
The IL/WI based drives travelled south to challenge their skills at the flat, slick, 1/5 mile speedway. Things looked tough early as several cars spun and slid during practice. Chuck Hinman #14 took a souvenir piece of the wall home with him in practice, but the damage was only cosmetic and he was able to have the car ready for qualifying.
In qualifying, rookie Cody Erdmann #52 surprised everyone by jumping out and holding P1, until final qualifier Erik Gehrke #5 stole the Century 21- Roberts & Andrews Top Qualifier award by a couple hundredths.
In Heat 1, Andy Forster #33 jumped out to the early lead, only to have Erle Hoth #22 sneak his nose under the #33 on the last lap to take the win. In Heat 2, rookie Kodee Busekros #29 passed his way to the front, only to have the young but seasoned Jacob Van Wazer #88 get by and take the win.
For the feature race, Mick Ellis #31 started out on pole and led the first half of the race with Ken Jones #3 right on his tail, trying all he could to sneak under the #31. Eventually he would try the outside, allowing Erik Gehrke #5 and Andy Forster #33 to scoot up right to the bumper of the #31. As the leaders began approaching the tail end of the field, #77 Theresa Udelle and #14 Chuck Hinman were locked in a side by side battle. Mick Ellis chose to get behind Chuck, Ken Jones behind Theresa, and Erik Gehrke split them all, narrowly sliding through to take the lead.
Ken Jones was able to regain second place and started his assault on the leader. Lap after lap he tried to find his chance to get under the #5, but as both cars slid and drifted around the tight turns, Erik Gehrke was able to stay out front in the caution flag free race and win the Sign-A-Rama of Grayslake sponsored Feature. Jones finished in second and Ellis third. Cody Erdmann was the CARQUEST of Grayslake/Libertyville Top Finishing Rookie in 4thplace after starting at the tail end of the field when his gas cap came off during the pace lap and zipping back through the field. Heat Winner Jacob Van Wazer #88 rounded out the top 5.
It’s a tight race for the championship and the pressure to win gets higher as the season is already half over. Be sure to visit www.AmericanSuperCups.com to see some great photos and videos from the best racing in the midwest! The ASCS return to Rockford Speedway for Race #10 on 8-13-11 for their Friends & Family Night. Contact your favorite Super Cup driver if you’d like to join the fun. Tickets to the party include food, drinks, prizes, pit tours, and tickets to the race. We’ll see you at the races!
7-25-11: Speed, skill, and surprises described the action this past Saturday night at Rockford Speedway. The area’s best Super Cup drivers took on the high banked speedway for the GEM Building Contractors 30. Five of the American Super Cup drivers looked to be the first repeat winner of the season. After a several year absence, former Super Cup Champion Brian Baldyga returned to the ASCS in his fast #4 car.
To start things off, points leader Erik Gehrke #14 challenged the field by swapping rides with his teammate, driving the #5 Chevy instead. However, it didn’t start off well in qualifying when Erik spun the car. Erle Hoth #22 would once again take the Century 21-Agent Charmaine Cerer Top Qualifier Award.
In Heat Race One rookie Kodee Busekros #29 took the early lead and held off a late charge by Andy Forster #33 for the win. Kodee is our first Rookie to win a heat race in 2011. In Heat Race Two, Ken Jones #3 jumped out early and survived Erle Hoth’s blast through the field for the win.
In the feature race, rookies Derrick Van Dreel #12 and Kodee Busekros started on the front row, with another spectacular rookie, Cody Erdmann #52 starting right behind them. When the green flag waived, Derrick took the early lead with veteran David Cerer #7 right behind him. David stayed attached to his bumper until the caution came out nearly halfway through the event for #6 Josh Hinman’s single car spin in turn 2.
On the double file restart, the #7 chose the low line under the #12 car which proved a fateful decision for both cars. Going into turn 1 both cars made contact, and the end result was Derrick Van Dreel’s car spinning in turn 2 and narrowly missing other cars. The Super Cups would line up and try the restart again, however, the track officials sent both cars to the rear of the field. The greatest beneficiary was the #88 Chevy of Jacob Van Wazer who now found himself in the leader position.
Jacob pulled away on the restart with Erle Hoth close behind. But when the checkered flag waived , Erle couldn’t find a way around Jacob, making him the first repeat feature race winner of the 2011 season. Derrick Van Dreel managed to pull back into 5th place by the finish, earning the CARQUEST of Grayslake/Libertyville Top Finishing Rookie Award.
The American Super Cups make a quick turnaround with a trip to the Indianapolis Speedrome next Saturday, at the same time NASCAR rolls into town. Then on Aug. 13th they return to Rockford Speedway for the Friends & Family Night, which includes a large pre race party with food, drinks, raffles, and giveaways provided. Let us know if you want to attend. We’ll see you at the races!

7-9-11: As a warm up act to the NASCAR Stars racing at the Slinger Super Speedway for the Slinger Nationals, the American Super Cups put on their own brand of electrifying race action in the “Prelude to the Nationals” race event. Before Kyle Busch picked up the checkered flag on Sunday night at Slinger, it was great door to door Super Cup racing action in the John Peterson Company 30 on Saturday.
Starting things off right was Erle Hoth #22 collecting yet another Century 21 – Roberts & Andrews Top Qualifier award. In the first heat race, it was veteran Erik Gehrke #14 grabbing the lead late from rookie Derrick Van Dreel #12 for the win. In the second heat race, another veteran, Ken Jones #3 jumped to the early lead and sailed away while the cars behind him battled 3 and 4 wide for second place, which went to rookie Kodee Busekros #29.
In the feature race, it was rookie Dan Weinfurter #1 who took the early lead and held on to the low side of the track, with Ken Jones putting pressure on the outside. Midway through the race, the #1 car broke loose, sliding up the track, pushing the #3 up with him. The #14 then stuck his nose underneath, creating a 3 wide battle for the lead coming out of turn 2. In turn 4, Weinfurter would regain the lead with Gehrke right on his tail. The #14 kept looking for the lead but the rookie was wise and held the bottom of the track as best he could when the caution came out late for debris.
On the double file restart, Ken Jones would jump to the outside of the #1 and try again to beat him out up high. However, Weinfurter flew out of the gate holding the lead. 2 laps later Gehrke would gather up a big run and finally get his nose under the crafty rookie on the backstretch, finish the pass in turn 4, and prevent the cross over move in turn 2. With only a few laps to go, Erle Hoth was able tuck under the #1 car for second place and on the final lap tried to dive bomb under the #14, but fell a few feet short. Erik Gehrke would go on to be the American Super Cup Series’ fifth feature race winner in five race nights this season, opening the championship door to just about every driver! Dan Weinfurter would take home 3rd, and the CARQUEST of Grayslake Top Finishing Rookie award.
The Super Cups return to Rockford on July 23rd for the GEM Builders 30 then travel to Indianapolis during the Brickyard weekend on July 30th to race in front of a packed house at the Speedrome. The ASCS reminds all our fans, friends, and supporters about the Friends & Family Night on Aug. 13th at Rockford Speedway, which includes a large pre-race tailgate party. Please let us know if you’d like to attend. We’ll see you at the races!
7-4-11: It was the Ultimate Motorsports Firecracker 25 this past Saturday night and our drivers put on some the most nail-biting, on the edge of your seat, racing of the season!
Erle Hoth #22 was once again the Century 21 Roberts & Andrews Top Qualifier, beating out the field of 16 cars. Erik Gehrke #14 just made it by rookie #52 Cody Erdmann for the Heat Race #1 win, while Jacob Van Wazer #88 and rookie Derrick Van Dreel #12 went side by side for the closest finish of the season in Heat Race #2. The track called Jacob the winner, but we’re still waiting on the video to confirm.
Andy Forster #33 found himself out front when the 25-lap American Super Cups headliner got underway. Last month’s feature winner at the Rockford Speedway, Jacob Van Wazer, quickly worked his car up to third and began to run down the second spot.
It took the teenager only nine laps to reel in the top two, diving to the bottom of Mick Ellis for the runner-up position but coming up a bit short as the caution flew for a Kodee Busekros single car spin in turn two with 14 laps remaining.
Forster held onto the lead on the restart as Van Wazer and Ellis tussled for second once again. Van Wazer’s super cup couldn’t grip the bottom groove of the high-banked oval and he surrendered two spots trying to move up the track, dropping to fourth as Ken Jones moved up to third. Several laps later it would be Forster and Van Wazer again fighting it out for the lead. On the white flag lap, Van Wazer threw it to the absolute bottom of the track in turn four before getting sideways and having to hang on for second.
Andy Forster went wire-to-wire for the win, his first of the season in the American Super Cup Series. “Van Wazer’s a good driver,” the victor admitted. “He raced me clean tonight. This is a great crowd tonight on the track and in the stands. We got one tonight!”
Ellis held on and eventually notched a solid third place effort. Derrick Van Dreel picked up another CARQUEST of Grayslake/Libertyville Top Finishing Rookie Award. Rockford Speedway then put on a great fireworks show at the end of the night! Photos, videos, official results and standings will be updated throughout the week, so keep checking back on www.AmericanSuperCups.com.
It’s been a very busy past few weeks as the ASCS usually have a week off between races, but they go for three weekends in a row this coming Saturday night at Slinger Super Speedway. It will be a practice night for some of the greatest late model drivers in country who compete on Sunday for the famous Slinger Nationals Event. Racing on 7/9 starts at 6:30 for our John Peterson Company 30! See you at the races!
Written by Jordan Kuehne & Erik Gehrke
6-26-11: It was some of the wildest and most exciting, door to door, 4 wide racing, of the season for the American Super Cup Series this past Sunday night at the high banks of Slinger Super Speedway. On the heels of the NASCAR Road America race weekend, the track at Slinger was a packed house, with fans hungry for great racing action and the ASCS delivered in the RaceTalkRadio.com 30!
Early in the day, 2010 Champion Erle Hoth #22 bested 16 super cup cars to take the Century 21 Top Qualifier Award. Steve Wilson of Libertyville, IL also made his debut in his freshly painted #00 super cup car. In heat race #1 Andy Forster drove his #33 Pontiac away from the field while Jacob Van Wazer #88, Derrick Van Dreel #12 and Hoth battled three wide in an epic duel for the second spot. Unfortunately for Forster his engine cradle broke just as he pulled into Victory Lane. However, he was able to jump in a back-up car for the feature, thanks to Ultimate Motorsports.
In the second heat race, Ken Jones #3 took the early lead on the outside, only to be passed a few laps later by #14 Erik Gehrke. Gehrke held off a late charge by Jones for the win.
In the feature race, right at the green flag, drivers went three and four wide looking to soak up track position as fast as possible. Up front #7 David Cerer took the early lead, but Erle Hoth was able to get a nose under him a few laps later to steal the lead. Ken Jones was right on Hoth’s tail and the two broke away from the pack. Behind them, cars again were racing four wide to take the 3rd spot. Derrick Van Dreel looked to grab third but slid below the yellow line, causing his car to slide into the infield. He was able to straighten out right away, so the race stayed green.
Gehrke and Van Wazer fought for third next, and Gehrke took the spot while Van Wazer jumped in line and helped push them right up to Jones’ bumper. Behind them, rookie Dan Weinfurter blasted his way through the outstanding class of rookies to move up to fifth. Back in heavy traffic, #5 Ben Grum got a little too close for comfort with the #23 Dodge of Mike Baum, causing them to synchronize slide through turn 2. Again, the race stayed green as both cars were able to continue on right away.
As the laps wore down, Gehrke tried to pass Jones down low while Van Wazer tried high. But the crafty veteran and race car builder Jones was able to hold them both at bay at the Checkered Flag. Gaining the most from the door to door battles behind him was Erle Hoth who took his first Feature Race win of 2011. Jones finished second, with Gehrke and Van Wazer in 3rd and 4th respectively. Dan Weinfurter was the CARQUEST of Grayslake Top Finishing Rookie, coming home fifth. After the race, drivers handed out hundreds of autograph cards and Kettle Moraine Bowl coupons to the race fans in the pits.
Be sure to keep checking the website AmericanSuperCups.com as more photos and videos are posted several times a week. The American Super Cups make a quick turn-around, racing at Rockford Speedway this Saturday Night, for the Ultimate Motorsports Firecracker 25, where the fireworks will be both on and off the track! See you at the track!
6-11-11: After canceling 2 of the first 3 races of the season for the American Super Cup Series, Mother Nature tried again this past Saturday night. However, the angry clouds gave way to a dry and cool evening at Rockford Speedway, which lead to some hot action on the track for the Century 21 Roberts & Andrews – Agent Charmaine Cerer 25 event!
In qualifying, #22 Erle Hoth was once again the Century 21 Top Qualifier. In the first Heat Race, #14 Erik Gehrke jumped to the early lead and barely held off Hoth and #3 Ken Jones for the win.
In the second Heat Race, #7 David Cerer held the lead wire to wire with rookie #12 Derrick Van Dreel attached right to his bumper!
For the Feature race, luck was on the side of birthday boy Jacob Van Wazer, turning 13 at the conclusion of the nights events. He was able to start outside pole and take the lead early on the high side. Erle Hoth followed in behind and stayed close enough to read Jacob’s tachometer. After them was a 4 way battle for third place among Gehrke, Cerer, Jones, and #33 Andy Forster. They swapped spots while a gaggle of rookies lay in waiting behind them, including Van Dreel, #52 Cody Erdmann and #29 Kodee Busekros.
As the laps wound down, Van Wazer and Hoth started pulling away from the field, but a late debris caution tightened the group back up for an exciting double-file restart. The first four cars chose the preferred high line, while Erik Gehrke chose the inside first row, with Ken Jones in tow. With only a few laps to go Gehrke was able to make the pass on Van Wazer for the lead, yet Van Wazer pulled the cross over move to get under Gehrke and run side by side for the last 2 laps. On the final lap, Van Wazer, pulled ahead coming out of turn 2. The cars touched corners and began sliding sideways. Gehrke then tucked in behind Van Wazer to try his own cross over move for the win, but fell just short.
Birthday boy Jacob Van Wazer was able to maintain his position, just barely over Gehrke and hard charging Erle Hoth. Derrick Van Dreel was the top finishing CarQuest of Grayslake rookie, coming home seventh. To top it all off, every car finished the race without any race incidents, including #10 Katie Weinfurter in her first Super Cup race.
The ASCS would also like to thank #77 Theresa Udelle and her sponsor The Popcorn Factory for providing after race samples for the fans and hats for all the drivers. Official race results, photos from Jimmy A, videos from Bennett Productions & Jim Udelle and more are continually being uploaded to the website, so please keep checking back at www.AmericanSuperCups.com.
Next race is the RaceTalkRadio.com 30 from Slinger Super Speedway on June 26th. We hope to see you there!
5-15-11: Mother nature steals another won. Race at Slinger has been cancelled due to rain. Next race at Rockford on 6-11-11.
5-7-11: (written by Jordan Kuehne) In the American Super Cups’ first visit of 2011 to the legendary Rockford Speedway, it was Ken Jones racing out to the top spot in the 30-lap J&J Powder Coating feature. Mick Ellis and Erik Gehrke gave chase in second and third as the scaled-down hot rods tamed the high banks.
After an early race caution for a single car spin, Gehrke used the restart to jump out front as Jones looked for the lead on the high line. The two veterans went side-by-side over the next eight laps, trading the lead as a six-car pack broke away from the rest of the field.
When the dust settled out front, Ken Jones once again emerged with the top spot as Gehrke, Ellis, and Erle Hoth followed behind him. Gehrke wasn’t done just yet however, working his way back to the lead with a daring low line pass with five laps remaining before relinquishing the top spot after getting caught behind a lapped car on the bottom of the track.
As the white flag waved, Ken Jones edged Gehrke to the line before every driver in the 14-car field outside of 12-year-old Kodee Buskeros hit the brakes before the finish line. The touching gesture allowed the young gun to honor the legacy of his uncle, recently deceased Rockford Speedway starter Tom Powell, and claim the win in spirit before celebrating in victory lane with an emotional family.
The official scoring gave the victory to Ken Jones while Erik Gehrke finished second by a foot. Erle Hoth, Mick Ellis, and Jacob Van Wazer all managed to collect top fives after coming home third, fourth, and fifth respectively. Busekros garnered an eighth place result.
Young Jacob Van Wazer won the John Peterson Landscaping Heat Race #1 while Erle Hoth won the GEM Building Contractors Heat Race #2. Derrick Van Dreel’s #12 took the CARQUEST of Grayslake Top Finishing Rookie award and Erle Hoth was the Century 21 Agent Charmaine Cerer Fast Qualifier.
Pictures and videos of the event will posted shortly, however many have already been posted on www.mdmracepix.com and www.myfinishlinephotos.com. It’s a quick turnaround for the ASCS as racing resumes next Sunday at Slinger Super Speedway. Cars will also be on display Monday 5/9/11 at Paulie's Pub for the Racing Round Up Show! See you there!

The American Super Cup Series announces new tech inspector…………
The American Super Cups Series is proud to announce Karl Turner as the series official tech inspector for the 2011 race season. Karl has been around racing for many years as both a crew member for a dirt modified team and as an owner/driver of a super cup where he earned Rookie of the Year honors.
Karl brings years of experience and knowledge of super cup racing and the mechanics of the super cup car to his position. His duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to: the inspection of all cars to insure the competitors cars conform to rules as written in the current rule book, coordinating race line ups, acting as a liaison between ASCS and the track officials, and creating a safe racing environment for all to enjoy.
We feel Karl will bring a non biased opinion along with his knowledge to continue to solidify the foundation by which the American Super Cup Series has been built.
